Penn Museum: Year of Egypt: Hollywood on the Nile Free Film Series: Land of the Pharaohs (1955)
Time:
1:30pm
Location:
University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, 3260 South Street, Philadelphia
The first Sunday of each month, from January through May, the Museum screens blockbuster films offering a look at Egypt through the eyes of Hollywood. In “Land of the Pharaohs,” (1955, starring Jack Hawkins and Joan Collins, directed by Howard Hawks), King Khufu orders a captive architect to build a pyramid with an impenetrable labyrinth, in return for his people's freedom. During the years that the pyramid is being built, a Cyprian princess becomes the pharaoh's second wife, and she plots to kill the king and take over his kingdom and the treasures within.
