In conjunction with the conference, Penn Museum hosts a one-day showing of five Yuan period paintings from a private collection and four of the Museum’s own paintings. Dashikis, similar to Boubou or Sarongs, originated in West Africa, and were originally hand-woven and dyed, and often highly decorative with embroidered features. After an inspirational visit to the African gallery, participants carve stamps out of root vegetables and hand stamp Dashikis with geometric shapes, animals, or any design imaginable! After winning Barrymore Award recognition for its collaborative venture with “Three Worlds Intertwined” at Penn Museum in 2004, Vagabond Acting Troupe returns for three weekends of exciting, interactive, family-oriented theater-in-the-galleries. This time, the Troupe takes Museum visitors back, back, back in time to ancient Egypt, and the Amarna Period—where some ancient Egyptian gods, banished to make way for a single deity known as the Aten, are not happy.
